Corvette Club of Orlando Helps Fulfill Wish of 16-Year-Old Boy
Give Kids The World (GKTW) and the Corvette Club of Orlando (Florida) fulfilled the wish of 16-year-old Buddy LaFontaine, who was diagnosed with kidney disease at age seven. A car fanatic, Buddy had dreamed his entire life of riding in a Corvette. On August 17, 2011, the two organizations made his dream come true.
"When we heard Buddy would be celebrating his 16th birthday here at the Give Kids The World Village [a resort for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families] and that he had a passion for Corvettes, we knew we had to do something special for him," said Courtney Parras, GKTW Director of Development and proud owner of the black '99 Coupe in which Buddy took his first ride. "We reached out for the Corvette Club of Orlando to ask for their help, and the response we received was overwhelming."
A fleet of 10 Corvettes, ranging from a fully restored '65 396 convertible to an '08 Z06, were parked in a simi-circle in front of the Village's Town Hall Building to greet Buddy when he returned from his Corvette ride.
"We are here today to grant a birthday wish for Buddy because he loves Corvettes," Corvette Club of Orlando member Mike Nostro said during the event, "and we want to help Give Kids The World in any way we can."
